How do you create a Key Result or a Metric?
What are Metrics?
In Oboard, a "Metric" is a new type of Component designed to track any quantifiable measure of progress or performance.
While Key Results remain a core part of Oboard, they are now considered a specific type of Metric. This means you can now track a broader range of measurable outcomes, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Initiatives, and other custom components, both as part of an Objective or independently.
Create a KR/Metric
Find an Objective or a Metric and click the “…” menu in a grid.
Or create it as a separate element from the structure
Pick the “Create metric“.
Put a Title and a Description into respective fields
Pick and setup the Progress option (%, Binary, or Metric)
Select the rest of the attributes like an Interval, Owner, Stakeholders, Groups or Labels
Save the Metric
Progress Options
Start/Target: This is the most common option for metrics that progress from a starting value towards a target value (e.g., increasing sales, reducing errors from X to Y).
Instead of just "Percent" or "Number," you can now define your own Unit of measurement (up to 5 symbols). This allows for precise tracking in units like "USD," "users," or "hours."
Milestones: If you choose the Start/Target option, you can add Milestones – intermediate targets with separate due dates and target values. Milestones are cumulative, meaning their values add up towards the final target.
Binary: For simple metrics that are either complete or incomplete (e.g., "Project Launched," "Compliance Audit Passed").
Threshold (NEW): This option allows you to define success based on meeting a specific value and condition. It is ideal for metrics where you need to maintain a certain level or stay within a range.
Setting a Condition:
Above/Equal: Progress is achieved when the value is at or above the threshold.
Above: Progress is achieved when the value is strictly above the threshold.
Below/Equal: Progress is achieved when the value is at or below the threshold.
Below: Progress is achieved when the value is strictly below the threshold.
Period-Specific Thresholds: You can split your Threshold Metric by periods (e.g., monthly, quarterly) and set a unique threshold for each period. This is useful for targets that change over time.
Grade calculation: Set the condition which will define how the progress for the Metric is calculated.
Most recent value: The progress is based solely on the most recently updated value
Average of all periods: The progress is an average of the performance across all defined periods
Minimum of all periods (depending on condition): This method ensures the grade accurately reflects performance relative to the most critical point.
For "Above" or "Above/Equal" conditions, this typically means the lowest value achieved across periods
For "Below" or "Below/Equal" conditions, it might mean the highest value achieved across periods.
