Check-in notification

Check-in notification

When a teammate submits a check-in, that update lives in Oboard — and only in Oboard. Progress happens, but the people who need to know about it don't find out until the next meeting.

Check-in Notifications fix this by automatically posting updates to the messaging tools your team already uses. When a check-in is submitted, the relevant people see it in Slack, MS Teams, or Discord — immediately, without any manual effort.

How it works

You create a notification rule that defines two things: who triggers it (which authors' check-ins get posted) and where the notification goes (which channels receive it). Once it's active, every qualifying check-in is posted automatically.

Step 1 — Connect your messengers

Before creating a notification, you need at least one messenger connected to Oboard via webhooks. Go to Settings → Integrations and connect whichever platforms your team uses.

Here are the guides for each platform:

  • Slack

  • MS Teams

  • Discord

Step 2 — Create a notification rule

Go to Settings → Check-ins → Notifications and click + Create notification.

  1. Name your notification

    1. Give it a descriptive name so it's easy to identify later.

  2. Define which authors trigger it

    1. Choose All users to post check-ins from everyone in the workspace, or Selected segment to target specific people.

    2. With Selected segment, you can filter by Groups and Users — and use Exclude Selected to remove specific users or groups from a broader selection. For example: all users in the Engineering group, except the group lead.

  3. Choose your channels

    1. Check the boxes for Slack, MS Teams, and/or Discord — you can select multiple.

    2. Then use the channel dropdowns to pick which specific channels the notification posts to for each platform.

  4. Click Create to activate the rule.

Reminders and Notifications: a complete workflow

Check-in Notifications work best alongside Check-in Reminders.
Use Reminders (Settings → Check-ins → Schedule) to prompt your team to submit updates on a regular cadence — weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
Then use Notifications to make sure those updates flow automatically to the right people in your messengers.

The result: your team submits check-ins on time, and stakeholders stay informed without anyone having to chase updates or log into Oboard.
